From local to those of foreign lands, birds bring a joy to our lives.  Watching them soar, play, feed, or just plain hang out is always fun.  While I've always enjoyed their presence, it wasn't until our trip to Ecuador that I spent much time contemplating the birds in my life.  That experience has changed me for life.

Ecuador
Of course, the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador are famous for their finches because of Charles Darwin's extensive research and contributions towards our understanding of evolution.  But the birds of the Ecuador go well beyond the finches of the Galapagos. Following are a few photos taken on our visit to Ecuador in 2018 where, in addition to the Galapagos, we visited a Cloud Forest west of the Andes Mountains, and Yasuní National Park and Biosphere Reserve in the eastern portion of the country, well down the Napo River from the nearest town of any size.

Tanzania
In October 2019 we paid a visit to northern Tanzania.  The bird life there was remarkable.  Following are just a few of those we saw on our tour lead by Overseas Adventure Travel. The guides were very knowledgeable about the avian life and were not only focused on the African Big Five wildlife species (Lions, Leopards, Elephants, African Buffalo, and Rhinoceroses).  We saw all those, but so much more!
